Most air conditioning systems have a lifespan of between 10-18 years, after which costly breakdowns occur frequently. It’s important to know that living in an area closer to the salt water, like we do, can decrease the life span of a unit to by 5 to 8 years. If your air conditioner is 12+ years old and your heat pump is 8+ years old, they are nearing the end of their lifespans.
